Piecing things together

Two 15"x30" 15"x30" oil paintings. I've always really liked paintings on different canvas that match up to create a greater image, while still looking neat on their own. First layer on this painting, technically 2nd (flat wash to kill the white).

Disappeared into life

In October I started at Expedia, working in EWE (Expedia Worldwide Engineering) as the program manager for the Client-Side Engineering team. I'm about to hit 4 months of having been there and I adore it. We enable awesome front-end code and purgate bad. I have 4 devs here in Bellevue, 2 in London and 2 testers in Hungary. I love my team; they're a lot of fun. I've worked a fair bit with the design team and we should be working with them more this year (how can I not hang out with the artists?).

It's odd to think I went from doing art, to advocating for artists and collaborating with devs, to advocating for devs and collaborating with artists. I thought I might mind working in a big company however, it doesn't feel big. And, as long as things can go fast I'm having fun.

I'm still painting and doing art. I've been doing a comic a day since July. I want to go a year of this, see where I get. Tomorrow number 220 will go up. I stopped feeling like an artist during art school, this has been recharging. Especially because I just keep creating. I don't have time to perfect or fuss over. One comic, then the next, and then the next. is where you'll find that.

2 Mobile Apps Shipped

I had a 4 month long internship over at Smilebox. My title was "Art Producer Intern". The first month I was there I made sure a design got pushed out everyday. It was an interesting challenge having a series of tight deadlines. Towards the end of my internship I focused on image optimization. I learned more than I ever expected to about the differences between 8bit & 24bit pngs. Shaving 50kb off a packet of images was reason to celebrate. It's easy working on 3d games to take file size for granted. Phones have come a long way but, 3g isn't fast enough to permit large files. We lauched Photopop in July and Smilebox Mobile mid-August.

The three collectibles I made for Fragment. I had fun playing with their color palettes. They remind me of Pokemon in an odd way; saturated colors aren't usually used in such quantity.

4/17 Environment, environment, environment.

And more changes to the room, Megan Noble (my very awesome Swiss Army knife) and myself spent the day attacking it.

Giant task list definitely falls under best idea I've had recently. Pushing to Gold (final milestone), art lock down Wednesday night. Game submittal Thursday night. Just keep swimming!
